Creative Connections for Kids ~ An Upgrade!
We are in the process of a redesign and upgrade. When WordPress last updated it took out my header. Rather then recode it, I have decided to have a complete redesign. I am working with the ever creative Bethany Barkey to totally change the look of the site. She has made some major changes and there are more to come. It is a work in progress. Come back soon to see our progress!

Whipped Cream Peppermint Twirls
Frozen whipped cream peppermint twirls are a delicious topping for hot chocolate, coffee or any other hot wintry drink. They are easy to make. The idea came from Bethany Barkey’s post on Instagram. I’ve tweaked the recipe and used left over candy canes from Christmas for the peppermint flavor.
These little swirls of whipped cream can be made ahead, frozen, then dropped into your favorite hot beverage to melt into a smooth and delicious pool of goodness.

Painting Easter Eggs with Tissue Paper
This year we are decorating easter eggs by painting them with tissue paper. The effect is soft, gentle, and so pretty. It requires basic supplies that most of us have on hand.
Now, it is important to be aware that all tissue paper is not the same. For this activity you want tissue paper that “bleeds”. If it is the kind of tissue paper that bleeds, it also stains. Please take precautions to protect surfaces, clothing, and etc. Some tissue paper is colorfast and doesn’t work. I had both types stashed in my drawer and learned from trial and error that some just doesn’t work.

Baby Play with Strips of Fabric
Last night our 6 month old grandbaby, Ruby, stopped by for a visit. Baby play is so simple and uncomplicated, and on this evening we played with strips of fabric The simplest items for play are truly the best. I had cut some strips from fat quarters of fabric, then pinked the edges with pinking shears. We stuffed these into a wipes box for her to pull from the box.

Tissue Paper Sensory Box – Let’s Cut!
This sensory box is cheap and fun, and is in cool wintry colors. Your preschoolers can help make it by cutting up the paper, perfect for scissor skills. I used old blue tissue paper and happened to have some silver tinsel for gift bags which had a “Frozen” feel. Sensory play is important! You can learn more about it at this post on the importance of sensory play.

This DIY drinking straw bracelet is an easy and inexpensive craft that would work well for a crowd, such as a classroom or community event. Top Nine Pregnancy Apps
I’m pleased to have Bethany Barkey guest posting today. She is my daughter and mother to my first grandbaby. (We are excited!) We expected our little Ruby to arrive yesterday…literally! Bethany has been talking about all of the apps she has enjoyed during the last nine months, so I’ve invited her to share them with you too.
Technology and information has changed so much since the smartphone, and I was somewhat surprised when my doctor recommended I check out apps for keeping up to date on baby’s progress and development! Since that nine week appointment, I’ve discovered a whole new world of information via my phone. Here are some of my favorite apps that I’ve loved and used a lot during pregnancy. The title links are clickable and will take you straight to the app.
