It describes how Bear wakes up from his winter hibernation and is ravenous with hunger. He wants more and more to eat.
Why do I recommend Bear Wants More?
It has:
- Rich vocabulary words such as lair, nibbles, feast, den, raven, romp, pries
- The predictable text encourages your child to interact and respond to the story.
- Rhyming words
- Science – hibernation
- Social skills – you can discuss feelings, helping others, friendship
By the end of the story Bear is very happy!
A craft for the story:
Supplies needed: dry, used coffee grounds, glue stick or liquid glue, foam shapes, marker, construction paper, paper plate, glue dots. 
I traced around a small measuring cup to make circles on construction paper. Have your preschooler cut the circles out, then affix ears, wiggle eyes, and nose into place using glue dots. Glue dots can be found in the scrap-booking aisle at Walmart. They are very sticky. Spread on the wonderful purple glue stick.
Spread the glue around with your fingers so that the plate is thoroughly coated. I didn’t do this as you can see below. Or you could used liquid glue. I am snowbound at home today, so I used a glue stick since that is what is on hand. Sprinkle on the coffee grounds and shake off of the excess.
I’m not really impressed with the cute factor of this activity. Plus it is a little more structured than what is ideal. But it does improve skills and meet objectives such as:
- Connect to the story
- Improve fine motor skills
- Provide sensory input. The coffee grounds have a wonderful aroma and fine texture.
- Sequencing and attention to task
- Spending time with your child
- Working together to complete a task
- Having fun together 🙂
