Cooking and Saving with eMeals

eMeals contacted me about using their product and provided weekly meal plans. The opinions in this post are honest and my own.  This post continues affiliate links.

I was completely pleased when eMeals contacted me about trying their product. I have been struggling with cooking more healthfully over recent months, and we’ve been trying to eating out less.  This opportunity provided incentive to plan ahead and be more disciplined. We are now empty-nesters, we work full time, and have many evenings meetings.  The tempatation to eat out is always there to run and grab a bite between meetings.

I loved the eMeal plans.  I don’t even now where to begin to describe them!

How does eMeals work?

Emeals is a subscription to receive a monthly meal plan complete with recipes, grocery list, and budget.  First, you pick your plan based upon your family size, style of food, and even where you shop. Then you receive recipes for seven meals along with a grocery list. The grocery list is amazing.

The Meal Plans

Over 50 meal plans are available.I chose the slow cooker clean eating meal plan then later changed to the low carb meal plan, just to see what it was like.  Other options are: paleo, Mediterranean, classic, low carb,  portion control, low fat, natural and organic, gluten free, vegetarian, simple gormet, and  general slow cooker. Plus they have a lunch plan and a breakfast plan too.

We used the meal plan for a family of four to six so that we would be sure and have left over for lunch. The budget for each plan was just over one hundred ten dollars. What a savings compared to eating out.

The Grocery List

The grocery list is ingenious. It was broken down by category. All of the the produce, dairy, meat, and etc. are grouped together.  When you choose your meal plan sometimes you can even choose your favorite store. The ingredients are also coded by recipe. When I learned that we were not going to be home for part of the week I picked the recipes I wanted to cook, then I went through the grocery list and highlighted the ingredients that I needed. It was a cinch.

The Recipes

I confess, when I looked at the first meal plan, I thought, “Holy cow! I am actually going to have to cook!”. I was a little overwhelmed by all of the details and ingredients. But once I used it I found that it really was simple. The recipes were amazing. I did not cook anything that we didn’t like. I made one of the best pork shoulder roasts that I have ever eaten! Recipes can be adjusted to suit your family. This is apple cider pork medallians with a pine nut salad. I spiced it up a bit by adding scoop of apple butter to the sauce. Yes, it was good!

We started with the slow cooker recipes. They are designed so that you cook a large portion of protein for one recipe, then reserve a portion of it for another recipe.  It worked best for me to put the ingredients together in the evening and put the crockpot in the fridge overnight. In the morning all I had to do was turn it on. It was wonderful coming home to a hot supper!

What I liked about eMeals:

  • I could go online and change the meal plan
  • It saved money!!! One weeks worth of grocerys was just over $110. For two people this included lunch too.
  • The grocery list was extremely well organized.
  • You can select specific stores for your grocery list
  • I loved that the ingredients on the grocery list were coded by number to correspond with a recipe
  • The recipes were delicious. I’m not kidding!

Will we be subscribing?

Yes!
