Easy Christmas Cooking: Magic Cookie Bars

The recipe is Magic Cookie Bars. It is so yummy and easy to make that your early readers can do it independently with minimal supervision for safety. I had the pleasure of enjoying my first magic cookie bar at a church potluck. The source for the recipe is right here. It is an excellent recipe to cook with your kids.

Ingredients for Magic Cookie Bars:

Magic Bar ingredients

 

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 1/2 cup crushed graham cracker crumbs (1 sleeve of crackers)
  • 1 can of sweentened condensed milk
  • 12 oz package of chocolate chips (or other flavored chips)
  • 1 1/3 cup flaked coconut
  • 1 cup chopped nuts

How to Make Magic Cookie Bars:

Preheat oven to 350F (325F for glass dish).Crush the graham crackers.

In 13×9 inch baking pan, melt butter in the microwave. At this time grease the pan. 🙂  I forgot to do this.

Sprinkle crumbs over butter; stir together and press into pan.

Pour sweetened condensed milk over the crumbs:

Top evenly with remaining ingredients; press down firmly.

Magic Cookie Bars - ready for the oven!

Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool thoroughly before cutting. Store loosely, covered at room temperature.

  • 12 oz package of chocolate chips
  • 1 1/3 cup flaked coconut
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350F (325F for glass dish).
  2. In 13×9 inch baking pan, melt margarine in oven.
  3. Sprinkle crumbs over margarine; stir together and press into pan.
  4. Pour Eagle Brand evenly over crumbs.
  5. Top evenly with remaining ingredients
  6. Press down firmly.
  7. Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until lightly browned.
  8. Cool thoroughly before cutting.
  9. Store loosely in a covered container at room temperature.
